Welcome to the D20 Homebrewery

Welcome. This blog is designed to help DMs create a better D20 SRD 3.5 based gaming experience by facilitating the sharing of house rules and ideas.

If you have an idea for a feat, rule, class, prestige class, skill trick, spell, or any other aspect of the game, then please feel free to post it here in a comment on the weekly post titled "New Rule Ideas". I also encourage people to give a rating of 1-5 on each rule, and will eventually create a list of the top rated rules.

Please refrain from discussing existing rules unless they relate to a rule you would like to create.

Thanks, and Game On!

New Rule Ideas

Anyone got any ideas?

  1. New weapon: Longpike (i.e. macedonian sarissa)

    Exotic Weapons

    Two-handed weapons
Weapon Cost Damage Crit Range Weight Type
    Longpike² 8gp 2d4 x2 - 12lb Pierce

2 This weapon is an extended reach weapon, which grants a range of 3 squares, but suffers a -2 on attack rolls.

  2. Interesting. What prohibitions exist on this range? Can I attack at 2 squares? At 1?

Dragon Mag had an issue about polearms. I'll have to check and see if this is in there. If you use this weapon, get the mag from me. It has some great feats (long strike, pole vault, short haft, etc.).

  3. Attacks would be limited to 15 feet. Short Haft would be ineffective, but the feat to increase range would still work. The idea is to carry this weapon, and also carry a sidearm, such as a longsword for close combat. Ideally the user of this weapon would be in the second or third rank of an army or be protected by someone with a shorter weapon.

It is mostly for DM use or specialized character use, and as a way to include pikemen, which were militarily important for over a millenia.

OR you could just take combat reflexes and block a 25 foot wide opening...

  4. What about this new rule for throwing creatures?
